Athena

Athena is a floor standing speaker system designed for music lovers who demand the highest quality music reproduction. Our innovative design is the culmination of many years of research and development. Athena is the middle model of the Arion Audio loudspeaker lineup. Athena is a two-way open baffle high sensitivity active system. They differ from most active speaker systems in that they can be powered by any amplifiers the owner chooses to use, low power SET to high power SS amplifiers. They are ideal for a wide range of listening environments providing a unique combination of extraordinary detail, clarity, dynamic linearity, accurate timbre reproduction and natural dynamic contrasts.

The Athena speaker system borrows most of its technology from our flagship Apollo system. Athena is much like the Apollo system but more compact. Sonically the Apollo and Athena are very similar. The Apollo has higher SPL capacity and the option of adding staked woofers. We use six Arion AMT drivers (built in house) and two 10-inch long throw dynamic drivers in each Athena. The Athena System does not have conventional passive crossovers. All crossover filters are handled by an advances DSP system which includes room correction. All drivers are directly coupled to the amplifiers for the purest signal transfer. The AMT driver array is high sensitivity and can be powered by as little as 1.5 watts but can handle quite a bit of power so any high-quality amp will work. The woofer array section is powered by its own internal 1200-watt amplifier.

AMT Line Array Top Section

Pristine high frequency reproduction, rich midrange, and dynamic articulate upper-bass reproduction are attained by the use of our proprietary AMT transducer (*Patent Pending) line array. Each of the AMT drivers (six per speaker tower) is comprised of precision CNC machined side plates made from the carefully selected steel and coated with a durable finish to protect the driver from corrosion. Custom neodymium magnets weighing just under one pound are used for each driver. The pleated diaphragms are carefully hand built and individually tested before final assembly. The Arion Audio AMT drivers are designed and built in-house, in the USA.

Open Baffle Bass Section

Proprietary BFW technology (Balanced Force Woofers – *Patent Pending)

Athena Bass section is an Open Baffle (OB) design that integrate perfectly with the extended-range tower top section. The twin 10” woofers in each Athena have rigid flat composite aluminum honeycomb-fiberglass cones maintaining linearity and high impact. The balanced double-roll surround design maximizes stability and control and minimizes distortion. Their dual heavy-gauge aluminum shorting rings (for low inductance) and 6-layer voice coil ensures maximum available force and fast, impactful bass.

Digital Crossover with Advanced Room Correction

Athena Loudspeakers are designed and engineered to be used specifically with digital crossovers with room correction to provide near perfect system-room integration. DSP with advanced room correction makes excellent in-room response in both the amplitude and time domains at the listening position easy to achieved. Most important, the system achieves a desirably impulse response. The impulse response of a loudspeaker gives you an indication of how well it can handle transients and provide a clean and powerful impact as well as a speaker’s performance in terms of transients and imaging as impulse responses carry localization cues. The advanced DSP system provides hassle free speaker-room integration, user adjustability to personal preferences and presets (29 total in memory) that can be selected on the fly.

Active System with Almost Unlimited Amplifier Choices

Athena loudspeakers are designed with active digital crossover management which gives us more control of the system’s performance and also eliminates any potential losses found in passive crossover components, which helps maintain efficiency and performance. The active digital system contributes to achieving near perfect system-room integration. Since the Athenas are high sensitivity and can handle a reasonable amount of power your choice of power amplifiers is almost unlimited. The automatic gain matching feature balances the tower output to the woofer module output for seamless integration.
